What is KUCCPS?

KUCCPS is an abbreviation for Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS). The Placement service seeks to promote equity and access to university and college education, by among other things, developing criteria for affirmative action, for the marginalized, the minorities and persons with disabilities.

Generally, KUCCPS is the body mandated by the Government of Kenya to place Government Sponsored students to public and private universities and TVET colleges. Please Note, it is not mandatory for students to be admitted through KUCCPS, a university or college may independently admit students to its programmes in accordance with its approved admissions criteria.

What is the process of applying a course via the KUCCPS?

The process is divided into four stages:
a) School Application
b)First revision of courses
c) Second revision of courses
d) Affirmative action and Placement of students
e) Inter-university transfer

Stage 1 : KUCCPS School/Center Application

What happens during school application? All secondary schools are expected to give necessary career guidance and assist the kcse candidates with online application for placement to universities and colleges. The secondary schools on behalf of candidates collect, collate and submit online application for placement to universities and colleges by following procedures given in the website. Every candidate is required to pay Kshs 500(Five hundred only); following procedures given in the website.

The minimum requirements for placement to degree is C+, Diploma C- , Craft Certificate D- and Artisan Certificate E.

School/Centre application usually takes place between Oct and December, every year. All candidates are encouraged to apply and make choices for programmes they are only interested in pursuing. No program is mandatory.

Stage 2: KUCCPS First revision of courses.

After the release of KCSE results, the KUCCPS gives candidates who did not apply for placement through their schools an opportunity to submit their choices. The revision/application exercise is done online by all applicants including those who had submitted their applications through their respective schools, and would wish to revise their choices.

After first the revision is over, successful candidates will be notified in their KUCCPS account.
The message for successful candidates will look like the example below:

Congratulations! The Placement Services Congratulates you on being placed to one of your choices in the recently completed revision. Further details on your placement will follow at the official release of the Placement Results.”

Stage 3: KUCCPS second revision of course choices

Candidates who will not have qualified on competitive selection for any of their preferred choices during the first round of selection are given a chance to do second revision by selecting courses with unfilled capacities. 

Candidates who had paid revision fees during School Application and during First Revision are NOT be required to pay for the Second Revision.

In addition, previous years' K.C.S.E. examination candidates who did not qualify for government sponsorship in the respective year can use this opportunity to apply for artisan, certificate and diploma programmes.

Stage 4 : Placement of students. 

Successful candidates are placed in one of their course choices. Please note, any applicant who fails to qualify for their choices after second revision but meet the cut off points for placement may be offered any course with unfilled capacities taking into account the minimum requirements for admission.

Stage 5 : Inter-university transfer. 

Successful applicants who will wish to revise their course choices are given a chance to change the course or transfer from one institution to another. This exercise usually take place in the month of May, every year.
