Kenya Medical Training College Students
Nursing course in Kenya is becoming of the marketable courses because there is emergence of many health care facilities in the country and the nurses are the core health care providers who are required to manage patients and clients attending these health care institutions for various health services. Although Kenya medical training college (KMTC) have been training nurses at certificate, diploma and higher diploma levels, there has been a need for advancement in their education (to degree level) so as to improve the management of patients and assume managerial posts.
In Kenya, for any institution to offer nursing course, it must be approved by a board from Kenya. This board is known as Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK). It is the accreditation authority responsible for accrediting education providers and programs of study for the nursing and midwifery professions. To date, the Council has approved 117 nursing/midwifery training institutions to train students at degree, basic and post basic diploma level for various branches of nursing practice.
It is imperative that students make sure that the institution where they will be trained is approved by the Council AND that the training programme (course) is also accredited by the Council. If either is NOT ACCREDITED, the Nursing Council will not recognize any of the training the student has received. This means that the learner will not be able to practice in Kenya (or elsewhere) after completing the training. The education and training regulations give minimum entry requirements for each nursing/midiwfery training programme.
