We probably know Cheryl Gitonga and how her private life became a matter of national importance that it was not only discussed on National Television but was also a subject for several FM stations in the Country.
We also agree that there are many Cheryl Gitonga’s in our campuses.
In fact, Ms. Philomena Ndambuki, a psychologist and director of mentorship at Kenyatta University was quoted in the Sunday Nation of June 12 2016 saying that ‘girls are sleeping with sugar daddies for money and if you keep in mind that the Kenyan society does not see anything wrong with corruption or stealing, then students have a motivating factor to join crime.’
From the discussions on both social and mainstream media, it is evident that most female university students are today living lavish lives at the expense of an older citizen who probably has a family. In exchange for a romp with a young and energetic university student, these older citizens are willing to part with enough cash to sustain lavish lifestyles for their campus sweethearts.
